Combo-Touch
A marketing film for Logitech
TITLE: Combo-Touch
ROLE: Animation
AGENCY: Dialect Inc
CLIENT: Logitech
AWARDS: Nominated ‘Best Specialist Campaign’ ICM Awards 2022
BRIEF
Dialect Inc approached Broken Antler to help them with the animation and visual look of a film they were making for Logitech. They had a clear concept of what they wanted to achieve but weren’t exactly sure how to approach the animation or apply this within the film. The film saw three characters and the animation needed to present their personalities and interests on screen whilst they went about their daily lives.
PROCESS
We were supplied with a storyboard and an animatic for the film and so our first stop was to provide some visual concept boards of how we saw the illustrative style of the film working.
The shoot required the actors to interact with some simple furnishing on a white Cyc set and then once we had the edited sequence, we had to track and rotoscope each shot.
Each scene also had to have its own background to place the character within the environment they were working in.
ANIMATED ASSETS
Each character had a specific personality and interests we needed to illustrate. From gardening to cooking, yoga to gaming. We started by creating a library of animated assets and we also thought we might incorporate typography to help us convey each character’s characteristics as well.
Not all the animated illustrations made it into the film in the end as the films direction changed slightly, but we had a lot of fun building these.
ANIMATIC + STORYBOARDS
The initial animatic and the finished film changed, as a sequence within the animatic eventually was dropped, but by and large, we kept to the storyboard and the initial creative direction.
ADDITIONAL WORK
On top of creating the main film, we also worked on three short 30-second stand-alone films showcasing each personality of the Touch-Combo character. We were required to provide typographic animation and further embellishments to add personality to the films.
Here are a few examples of the designs we created including typographic designs, however, our typographic work was dropped from the finished films in favour of a more simplistic approach, although we did continue to work on the films providing animated textured backgrounds as seen below.
