FAQ
Q. Can Broken Antler direct and produce live-action?
A. Yes, we can. Ben directs, and Elaine produces. We’ve done this multiple times before on numerous projects with both adult and child actors. Yes, we’ve worked with kids!
The advantage of working with us in this capacity is that we understand and handle post-production, including visual effects. So you can have every confidence if you hear those infamous words “we’ll fix it in post.” You’re in safe hands.
Q. What can Broken Antler help me out with?
A. We can help with a large part of your film or video needs. Do you need a brand film? We can make that. A music video? Gotcha back there, too. Want titles for your TV series, film, or an opener to an event? Info-graphic, explainer film, VFX assets for your film, or to fill holes in your documentary? We have got you covered. We’re a one-stop shop, creative powerhouse. Small but mighty. Need an edit, graphics or animation, or a team to craft your advert. Just bring a smile, a budget, and we’ll do the rest.
Q. What is mixed media?
A. Mixed media is the combination of multiple different media, including but not limited to; photography, 2D, 3D, stop-motion animation, live-action, illustrations, motion graphics, info-graphics, AI, used within the same scene or project.
Q. Can you mix photography and animation with live-action?
A. Absolutely. You can mix everything. Think of it like decorating your house. You can combine fabric, glass, wood, plastic and everything else to create the perfect vibe. Same with film.
Q. How much does animation cost?
A. It all depends on what you’re after. Like buying a car, you can start with a very basic model and add value. Sometimes it’s easier to say how much you have, and we can then work with you to get the most out of your budget.
Q. Does Broken Antler work on a day rate or by project fee?
A. A project fee is preferred, and here is why. You don’t really know how long something is going to truly take, and if you start with a day rate, you’ll usually underestimate the time to keep costs low, keeping some back for contingency. However, with the information given and this reduced timeline puts pressure on the production. We then have to figure out how to make your film in a shorter time frame. So you’ll get less than you could really afford, which is a shame, unless you like cheap stuff and then go elsewhere. We’re not in this for the money, but we also value our skills.
Now, with a project fee, ideally what you want this to cost and to look like, and we can figure out the very best way to achieve this.
It’s not difficult. If the budget is all smoke and mirrors, we can’t help you deliver the very best for your client. Which we assume is what you want? If not, then we might have a problem to start with.
On top of this. Clients have their own timeline, and it doesn’t matter what they tell you; it’ll creep, and we both know it. So suddenly, extra days are required, and your budget melts.
Q. Do Broken Antler direct music videos?
A. Hell yeah, we do! We have made music videos featuring global megastars like Stormzy, Charlie XCX, JP Cooper, Dizzee Rascal, Starkey, Badly Drawn Boy, Tom Hickox, and Fox Stevenson
Q. Do Broken Antler create event graphics?
A. You’re damn skippy, we have great fun making films and motion graphics for events. From introductions to events, bum settlers (that’s what they’re called, don’t blame me!) and content for the most prestigious CEO or any of the C-Suite. We make them look good and appear interesting. Not that they need the help (guess what emoji would be used here if I could!)
Q. Does Broken Antler create visual effects?
A. Yes, but we really only create the magic for the projects we lead. This is largely because we have the control to not stitch ourselves up later. You’ve heard it on set before: ‘Fix it in post!’ Well, someone always pays for that. usually not the person who says it.
Q. Will Broken Antler do a project for free?
A. I’ve always loved how Mr Bingo responded to this question, and I’ll say the same thing. Get fucked!
Q. What about if we could offer amazing exposure?
A. You can’t, it’s bullshit, and we both know it, so, as above, get fucked!
Q. How big is your team?
A. They say size matters, but then size also costs. If you’re after a team and the cost of the overheads, then there are many amazing animation studios that can help out. Give us a call, and we’ll point you in their direction. We work a little more like the MI: Mission Impossible team. We build a highly skilled and creative team based on what is required to produce an incredible film that delivers. You don’t pay for the receptionist, the fancy office in Soho or the communal kitchen and coffee machine.
Plus, we do all our own stunts!
