Director Tas Booker approached us for assistance with a compelling documentary featuring three female whistleblowers who fearlessly risked everything to share their stories. The film features intelligence agent Katharine Gun, Oxfam aid worker Helen Evans, and actress Rose McGowan, narrating their harrowing tales post-whistleblowing on some of the biggest stories of the decades.
PROCESS
Director Tas Brooker encountered the challenge of visualizing parts of the film's compelling story without access to certain areas or archival footage. The project's allure was undeniable; we felt compelled to be involved and aid in bringing these stories to life. Having collaborated with Tas in the past, her trust in our visual instincts was a privilege we greatly valued.
Right from the outset, our vision for the animation was to embody a black-and-white, hand-drawn feel, rich in texture. We commenced by crafting the titles, weaving a montage of magazine and newspaper headlines. These animated prints seamlessly amalgamated into a textured canvas, featuring the headlines encapsulated within the film. The gritty, charcoal-infused tone inspired the subsequent animations.
