After The Storm
A Short Short
TITLE: After The Storm
ROLES: Director, Designer, Animator
AGENCY: AC4PAL
CLIENT: The Children of Gaza
Description:
ITo Gaza With Love is a global anijam project from AC4PAL, inviting animators to create 10–30 second films of hope for the children of Gaza. The aim is to raise awareness of the urgent need for food, shelter, safety, medicine, and support for children caught in the conflict.
I wanted to get involved because I believe the killing of children, regardless of their background, faith, or where they were born, is utterly unacceptable. These children are at the heart of a war they didn’t choose, and more must be done to support them. I was also inspired by a stop-motion animator working directly with children in Gaza—offering brief moments of escape, joy, and creative relief through animation. That idea stuck with me: that animation could offer not just a message of hope, but a way to bring a small smile in the face of trauma.
PROCESS
This animation originated in my sketchbook, where I explored several visual ideas and concepts that could resonate across cultures and age groups. From there, I developed a storyboard, then moved into Procreate to bring the illustrations to life through traditional 2D frame-by-frame technique, including some of the fire, smoke, and rainfall effects.
The full piece was put together in my spare time over three weeks. After animating and compositing everything in Adobe After Effects, I handled the final sound and music edit in Adobe Premiere. I’m grateful to be involved and inspired by the artists who also worked on this AniJam.
