The Quest
A Short film
TITLE: The Quest
ROLES: Director, Designer, Animator
MUSIC BY: Brendan Williams
Description:
An itch I had to scratch. This idea was born when a client wanted to talk about great ideas and their struggles to find the light. I had this idea, and it wouldn’t go away. Obviously, the client had no use for this idea. I mean, it’s pretty pointless, but it was fun to make. The final version is somewhat darker in style than I’d have delivered for a client, but that’s the point of short films, isn’t it? To do your own thing. Brendan Williams was a star and provided the music, which really made the film special for me. It was the first short I made as Broken Antler, and it was a small step in the direction I wanted to head in.
PROCESS
It all started with a silly idea for a pitch. That’s literally as far as it got until I couldn’t shake this stupid idea, so I boarded it out and set about working on it. Harry Latham helped with some 3D assets and animation. The textures were all built from ink marks on paper, which I was just getting into and haven’t really got bored with just yet. Animation was all puppet pins in After Effects. I hadn’t discovered how to link nulls to them at this point, so it was labour-intensive, I can tell ya!
