Horsepower
Graphics for Amazon Prime documentary series
TITLE: Horsepower
ROLE: Motion Graphic Design and Animation
AGENCY: Lorton Entertainment
CLIENT: Amazon Documentaries
BRIEF:
Lorton Entertainment approached us to create graphics for their new sports documentary for Amazon. Horsepower is a captivating four-part series that shadows leading UK trainer Andrew Balding and his stables at Kingsclere. Providing an exclusive glimpse behind the scenes, the show explores the yard's quest for the next equine superstar, showcasing both triumphs and setbacks along the way.
PROCESS:
Partnering closely with producer Stevan Riley and Angus Paskin Orr, we delved into crafting a variety of graphics, spanning lifelike newspaper articles, social posts, and intricate horse racing tables. Documentaries are an ongoing journey; as fresh updates came in, the story structure and films evolved, prompting adjustments in our designs for a more compelling narrative.
Textures became our creative playground! During the R&D stage, we focused on developing an authentic look for the newspapers and social screens, ensuring they appeared genuine up close yet retained digital flexibility. This fusion allowed us to make on-the-fly adjustments to the copy, sculpting the visuals to align with the unfolding story.
MOTION GRAPHICS
In addition to crafting numerous newspapers and social posts, we tackled the challenge of creating a racing table and a map to enrich the storytelling. Sometimes, there's a need to visually convey aspects that lack footage, so we call upon motion graphics for a helping hand. The racing table posed a unique challenge due to the ever-changing positions of riders—this wasn't a weekly shift but a daily shuffle. Depending on the day, riders could participate in one to four races or none at all. To make sense of this dynamic narrative, we experimented with various designs to logically thread the story together.
